Mommy's Little Helper

Being a college student is rough as it is but when you have a two year old who stares at you when you're trying to study, it gets that much more interesting. My textbooks have stains of juice on them and have the consistency to smell like a hint of apple sauce. The buttons on my computer sometimes stick because some unknown sticky substance has been split, not once, but multiple times right on top. On the bright side I always have a little helper trying to sneak a peak of what mommy is doing and who's cute little face makes it nearly impossible to get anything done so in the long run, I don't spend much time on homework. I'm surprised that I'm getting this done right now while being a human jungle gym at the same time. I'm pretty sure I just heard a loud BANG and the child is nowhere to be seen. Silence is now among us and that is not a good sign. Sorry to cut this short but I have to go make sure that he is all in one piece and whatever was just shattered on the floor is cleaned up.

Haven't Gotten there Yet

So I haven’t exactly got to experience the secret life of a college student yet, seeing that I’m still in high school and only started college last month. But there is this perceived idea that college is just partying, sex, and drugs. Even though there might be a piece of that life style during college I think there is more a college student does. College is where you find yourself and where you learn how to manage your time right and your finances too. Where your ideas and religious views are challenged. Where you are challenged. The place where you find out all the different ways you can cook roman noodles, and how to stay awake through class or sleep with your eyes open during class and do a cram session later. You do anything and everything to survive and pass. Then there comes the secrets you hide from your parents and the rest of your family, the parties, sex, and drugs. While it does happen I don’t think or expect it to be at the level the media hypes it up to be.

Why You Gotta be so Rude?!?!

By Jackie and Angelica
Do you ever just wake in the morning in a good mood feeling good got some pep in your step, smiling  from ear to ear at the world? and then out of no where BAM! some random human being you have no connection with decides to ruin your day based on the vibe they gave, for example: When you smile at them they don't smile back. Or you share your opinion in class but because it is not to their liking so they throw a rude comment at you. These are a just few things within a huge pool of  rudeness. Basically when it comes down to it and what we're saying is people will always be rude. You don't have to take it personally. When people are rude it usually means they are dealing with their own issues in their personal life. "How people treat other people is a direct reflection of how they feel about themselves...When people are mean, I figured it was a personal choice; that it was a conscious decision to stop caring about other people's feelings and opinions...I even became prone to insulting people as a way of protecting myself if they didn't like me...People aren't mean for the sport of it, or because they are against you; people are mean to cope." I see rude people...

The Secret Lives of College Students

From going to work, riding my horse to driving out to Pueblo every Sunday to get some practice in on the Bulls. Id say I have a pretty great life, work hard on all of my goals especially Bull riding. Every time I reach that goal then I make another one and another one. I push myself to the limit every time I get on a Bull. Yes its a scary to get in that chute with a 2,000 pound animal in an all metal box.To hear the Bull kicking at the gate snorting and when he looks at you in the eyes and you can read exactly what hes saying, and that is he wants to hurt you so bad but you look at him and in your head you say I can ride him. But let me tell you it is one heck of an adrenaline rush! Every time I ride and fall I just get back up hurting or not and say give me another on to ride.

Secret Life of College Students

Written by Brett Carr & Victoria Quintana

Drugs, booze and fast food, what else can please a college student? Sleepless nights, frat parties, dorm rooms and the endless choice of potential mates sounds amazing to anyone entering college.   At the same time, entering college can be intimidating and tempting.  Not only are our social lives at the hands of our fellow classmates, but college students are endlessly bombarded with homework and finals with no end in sight.  Temptation finally arrives when night falls as the frat parties began and pressure to follow your dorm mates sinks in.   The so called “secret life” of a college student is not so secretive but rather hidden.  Not secretive because a college student rarely has time for themselves to breathe or think in a moment of silence.  Hidden because many college students must choose to isolate themselves in order to escape the distractions of their everyday lives.  College can decide our fate in life which is why we choose to remain hidden and spend many sleepless nights catching up.  Coffee and Mountain Dew becomes our best friend rather than our roomies because they help us push through our hidden lives, in our brief moment of silence so we can achieve that A.

Secret life of a College Student

Working at going to school and learning to go to work its all a pain in the ass. Conflicting schedules between working astringent hours being at work from 6am working up until 7 or 8 o'clock in the evening with still a commute to get through, and pushing the long arduous paper. Coming to wits end what will I do, I am going to brew some coffee and try to push through. If only cocaine was a legal upper, image all that we could accomplish. Like when it was still in coca cola and a over the counter treatment for illness. But I digress back to caffeine and sugar to get me through the day, one day at a time. https://caps.byu.edu/sites/caps.byu.edu/files/pictures/Untitled-1-01.png

Chill Out Man

College can be pretty stressful. You start out the year on a clean slate and you think they year is going to be great! You have all your priorities in line, you're organized and ready to go, then WHAM! You're stacked with homework, and you're stressed to no end and you're feeling overwhelmed.

What can you do to ease this stress?
How can you lift all this weight?

You'll be one stressed out Sylvester all semester

To make sure you're not everywhere all in one place, break up your work in chunks. Write down your schedule and try to get your work done in a certain amount of time.

Also, make sure to get plenty of sleep. Eventually all that homework will pile up if you wait too long. If you end up staying up later than usual, and you have class in 6 hours, 4 hours of sleep is probably your best bet. At least it's some sort of rest.

Lastly, all your stress right now is temporary. The sooner you get your work done, the less you have to worry about. In the end, your end result will be great if you push hard, but don't push your limits. Know when you're over working yourself. Everything will work out in time!

It'll all pay off! Just don't forget why you're doing this. This is for you no body else!
